Workshop “Technical Exchange On Learning Management System (LMS) At 11 TVET Partner Colleges”

On 05 and 06.10.2023 in Ho Chi Minh City, the workshop “Technical Exchange on Learning Management System (LMS) at 11 TVET Partner Colleges” was organised. Participants are representatives of board of rectors, representatives of training departments, focal point of digital transformation (DX) and teachers with experience in using LMS in training activities from 11 partner colleges of GIZ.

Learning Management System (LMS) is considered an indispensable part of the training of TVET institutions in the context of digital transformation. On 11/05/2023 in the “Annual Review and Technical Exchange” in Bac Ninh, Leaders of 11 partner colleges unanimously asked GIZ to support the development of LMS. This proposal comes from the fact that 11 schools have built and implemented LMS. However, many colleges still face difficulties because they do not really have the proper attention and investment of resources and there is no systematic approach strategy in line with the spirit of digital transformation in TVET.

So far, LMS has been deployed and piloted with different scopes in colleges for nearly three years. This is considered a very suitable time for 11 colleges to look back, discuss and share good practices, difficulties and challenges, along with lessons learnt and specific and practical recommendations and solutions.

During the two-day workshop, the discussions revolved around four key topics: legal framework, infrastructure, human resources and mobilizing financial resources for LMS development.  Presentations in the workshop include:

  • Purpose and trend of LMS development in the context of digital transformation in vocational education and training (Bac Ninh College of Industry – BCI)
  • Developing policies and regulations to promote and encourage the implementation of LMS in vocational training (BCI)
  • Set up and manage learning plans of learners on LMS (Nha Trang College of Technology – NTCT)
  • Interface, course and user management on LMS (An Giang Vocational College – AGVC)
  • Application of LMS in examination and inspection support (College of Technology II – HVCT)
  • Introduction of plans and initial results for digitizing the Digital Literacy Module on the LMS (Vocational College of Machinery and Irrigation – VCMI)
  • Sharing blended teaching experiences in vocational training on LMS (BCI)

The workshop participants frankly shared the status of LMS exploitation, difficulties, challenges, solutions as well as some initial successes along with how to implement LMS at their school. In addition, the participants also spent a lot of time working in groups, discussing and making proposals on practical solutions to common problems that 11 schools are facing in order to promote the use of LMS more effectively. 

The workshop received helpful feedback through the post-event evaluation forms, such as: The organisation meets the requirements and expectations of participants. The organising team needs to increase the amount of time for colleges to share experiences and focus more in-depth on some specific content of the LMS. Overall, 79% of respondents were “Completely satisfied” and 21% were “Satisfied” with the workshop.
