Workshop “Design Action Competence-Oriented E-Lessons”

In May 2023, the TVET Programme collaborated with the General Directorate of Vocational Training and Nha Trang College of Technology to organized the workshop ““Enhance capacity in updating the Informatics subject towards a digital literacy training module piloting at 11 partner TVET colleges”. Based on the results of this workshop as well as recommendations from GIZ’s partner colleges, the TVET Programme aims to further enhance digital competencies as well as e-pedagogy for core teachers at GIZ’s 11 partner colleges.

According to the 2023 operation plan, the TVET Programme cooperated with Hue Industrial College to organize the workshop “Design Action Competence-Oriented E-Lessons” for two days from 24 to 25 August 2023 in Hue. The workshop takes the Digital Literacy (DL) module as an example to practice applying this new pedagogy. Participants are core teachers from 11 partner colleges.

The workshop aims to create a premise and initial foundation for applying this method to other training professions in the long term. The workshop’s content and organizing methods help core teachers orient their thinking. It used the DL module as a specific example for analysis, design and practice, creating a more intuitive and realistic view of this new approach.

Through the interweaving of theoretical study sessions on action competence and practical sessions, the college groups analyzed and described in detail competencies and component competencies based on the content of the DL module. From the results of the analysis and description of competencies, the core teachers proceeded to develop lesson plans and outlines. Knowledge and skills as well as how to implement training for learners are logically ordered. With the aim of helping core teachers design a complete e-lesson to apply in practice, the workshop asked teachers to practice designing lesson plans and scripts for e-lessons. The next step is to digitize the content and build detailed digital lectures directly on the online Learning Management System (LMS) to fully exploit the benefits of blended teaching. The system of forms was shared for core teachers to practice for the purpose of standardizing content preparation and lesson plan design. Not stopping there, the workshop also provided in-depth instructions on the process of how to build and digitize a bank of assessment test questions on the system (LMS).

The workshop brought new perspectives on thinking and methods and considered the feasibility and benefits of applying the new e-pedagogy to teaching and learning practices in the context of digital transformation. At the workshop, representatives of 11 partner colleges shared their willingness and commitment to replicate the “Design Action Competence-Oriented E-Lessons” method at their colleges. In addition, the colleges put forth many new proposals and ideas, helping the TVET Programme to know how to accompany and support the partners in the next phase.
