Training workshops on inclusive curricula adaption, lesson planning and assessment for TVET core teachers in 2021

With the goal to help TVET teachers understand inclusive vocational training concepts and to enable them to adapt curricula as well as plan lessons and assessments for all learners, including learners with disabilities, two training on “Inclusive teaching skills: how to adapt curricula, lessons and assessments to diverse needs of learners” were organized. They were implemented by the “Programme Reform of TVET in Viet Nam II” from the end of October to November 18, 2021. The engaging training was provided by two enthusiastic trainers and involved the active contribution of 50 core teachers, among them 24 from 11 partner TVET institutes and 26 from other TVET institutes which work with people with disabilities.

The two online courses included 8 topics with many practical exercises, giving the core teachers the opportunity to reflect on relevant concepts of disability, the meaning and benefits of inclusive education in vocational education and training. At the same time, the training courses have provided skills for teachers to design meaningful lessons, using inclusive teaching methods such as learner-centered pedagogy, Universal design for learning (UDL), differentiating learning and assessing learning based on needs and capacities. Additionally, the groups of core teachers discussed about specific teaching strategies, which are easy to apply and provide support for disadvantaged groups such as learners with visual impairments, hearing impairments, physical disabilities, learning disabilities or emotinal behavioral disorders. Futhermore, TVET teachers with many positive perspectives on people with disabilities and inspired to effectively implement inclusive education for all.

Both of courses were highly appreciated by participants and TVET core teachers for inclusion. The teachers wish to be able to take part in futher inclusive training courses to contribute to improve vocational training quality and ensure the rights of people with disabilities in our society. The activity took place within the framework of the Programme Reform of TVET in Viet Nam, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in cooperation with the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam.
