The visit of Country Director GIZ Vietnam to VCMI and LILAMA 2

On November 17, 2020, Ms Regina Ecker – the Country Director of GIZ Vietnam visited the Vocational College of Machinery and Irrigation (VCMI) and the LILAMA 2 International Technology College (LILAMA 2). Accompanying Ms Ecker was Dr Juergen Hartwig – the Programme Director, together with the officers, integrated expert, and development advisors of the Programme “Reform of TVET in Vietnam”.

Having visited and experienced VCMI, Ms Ecker was presented on the development history, achievements during the past few years of the college, and also the challenges that it has been facing during the process of developing VCMI to become a High-quality Institute for Green TVET by Dr Nguyen Van Chuong – the College Rector. Ms Ecker was highly impressed with the application of workshops management, the recruitment of students and the pilot of the two new occupations which followed the concept of German standard oriented Cooperative Training, with the support from the Programme Reform of TVET in Vietnam: “Electronics for Energy and Building Technology” and “Mechanics for Sanitary, Heating and Climate Technology”.

To continue the initial successful implementation of the cooperative training programme at VCMI, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between GIZ and VCMI, consolidating common objectives and action plans in the next cooperation phase.

At LILAMA 2, the Rector – Mr Nguyen Khanh Cuong – introduced about the High-quality TVET Institute concept at LILAMA 2, as well as the results and experience obtained from the successful pilot of cooperative training programme oriented on German standards for the occupations: Mechatronics, Industrial Electronics, Construction Mechanics and Metal Cutting at LILAMA 2 and partner companies in the past 5 years. Ms Ecker had the opportunity to experience an e-learning further training course with teachers and in-company trainers; the workplace oriented, 3-layer workshop concept and the product and business demand oriented training approach.  

In the closing speech, Ms Ecker stated: “LILAMA 2 is one of the most important partners of the Programme Reform of TVET in Vietnam. GIZ wishes to continue support LILAMA 2 in the upcoming development process and multiply this concept to other TVET institutes in Vietnam.”

This activity was held within the component “Supporting High-Quality TVET Institutes” as part of the Vietnamese – German “Programme Reform of TVET in Viet Nam”. The programme is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) together with the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA).
