The Vietnamese – German Programme Reform of TVET in Viet Nam, under its component ‘TVET System Advisory’ conducted a comprehensive Gender Analysis to analyze the linkages and impacts of the Programme on Gender Equality in Viet Nam.

The mission took place from 25^th February 2014 to 18^th March 2014 in Viet Nam, namely in Hanoi and in three provinces: Bac Ninh, Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai, representing direct partners of the Programme components: Programme Vocational Training 2008 (PVT2008), Center of Excellence in TVET, and TVET for Waste Water Sector.

The research team comprises of an international Gender specialist, who counts on extensive working experience in the field of gender equality in Viet Nam, a national Gender specialist as well as staff of the TVET Programme from GDVT/MoLISA and GIZ. During the mission, the research team conducted meetings and discussion with relevant stakeholders of macro, meso and micro levels. In particular, survey and interviews were carried out with students and managers of the partner TVET institutes. As a result, the Gender Analysis would create a significant basis to assess the Programme’s impact on Gender Equality. Furthermore, it will contribute to improved Gender mainstreaming by providing recommendations for potential further improvement and specification of objectives, indicators, approaches and activities of the Programme Reform of TVET in Viet Nam that are in line with the principles of the 2011-2020 National Strategy for Gender Equality of the Government of Viet Nam.

The mission was successfully conducted and its results will be presented at a workshop with all relevant stakeholders tentatively scheduled for mid April 2014. This will be the opportunity to review the mission findings, to share experts’ analysis, as inputs for joint discussion with Programme partners on possible further mainstreaming of Gender Equality in TVET.
