Open day HVCT 2017: Your choice – Your future

In recent years, the demand for skilled labour has increased steadily, so the government has directed to strengthen the investment and promotion for TVET). However, the prejudices of the society regarding TVET still remain. In addition, the lack of up-to-date and accurate information about the labour market and employment has left most students unaware of TVET and the career opportunities for TVET graduates in comparison with those for university graduates.

With the support of the Vietnamese-German Technical Cooperation Programme Reform of TVET in Viet Nam (GIZ), the Open Day 2017 ‘Your Choice – Your Future’ is organised jointly by the College of Technology II, professional associations and enterprises to provide information to more than 1500 students in grade 12 and 2000 college students. Participants receive information on training offers at the College, on the actual demand for skilled workers of enterprises as well as employment opportunities after graduation, including details such as income, promotion and development chances, etc.

Even before the Open Day, the 12th-grade students have been preliminarily guided and consulted to select the occupational groups of their interest. At the event, the students focus solely on activities for their interested occupational groups that include guided workshop tours, occupation experiences via practical games with real and simulated instruments, talk shows with successful alumni and businesses, as well as obtaining information about career and training offers at the exhibition booths. In addition, HVCT sets up a career guidance center to help students be more confident in their choices, as well as explore their strengths and capabilities, thereby identifying their suitable future occupation.

Through the activities above, HVCT wishes to reach a comprehensive solution in vocational education: orienting young people to choose their careerr according to their abilities and the actual socio-economic needs, equipping them with practical skills and knowledge, and assuring a good start for the careers of graduates in closed accompany with businesses.

The Open Day HVCT 2017 receives the support and participation of H.E. Dao Ngoc Dung, Minister of Labour, Social Affairs and Invalids, H.E. Andreas Siegel, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ho Chi Minh City, Dr Nguyen Hong Minh, Director General of the General Directorate of Vocational Training (GDVT), representatives of local agencies, Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), professional associations, as well as management of businesses and high schools.
