Mechatronics has become a key to many different products and processes. Modern systems have reached a level of sophistication, which would have been hard to imagine using traditional methods. Mechatronics integrates the classical fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer engineering known as information technology.

Since 2006, the programme component Promotion of TVET has implemented several activities in the field of mechatronics as follows:

• DACUM-analysis for the occupation of Mechatronics
• Development of labour-market oriented training modules
• Development of teaching and learning materials for selected training modules

Organized training courses to enhance capacity for vocational teachers/instructors at TVET partner institutes (including technical knowledge and skills as well as module teaching methods) :

• Installation and testing of pneumatic, electro - pneumatic controls
• Programming of Mechatronic System with PLC
• Installation of Hydraulics System (Basic)

Promotion of TVET will continue to compile teaching materials for further modules and to carry out training courses in the area of mechatronics, such as "Installation and testing of hydraulic, electro - hydraulic controls" and "Mounting, installing, commissioning and trouble-shooting of mechatronic systems". The trained teachers/instructors will train other teachers/instructors in the future.
