‘The knowledge learnt during the course is totally new and really practical and useful’

Within the framework of the Vietnam-Germany Cooperation Programme ‘Reform of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Vietnam’ (TVET-GIZ Programme), a 5-day training course on “3D scanner and Geomagic Design X software for five teachers of Mechanical Technology Department under Bac Ninh College of Industry (BCI) was organised between 11 and 15 October 2021.

The participants are practicing reverse engineering on Geomagic Design X software

The training course provides the participants with basic knowledge and practical skills for using Geomagic Design X software on Hexagon 3D Laser Scanner required for teaching specific modules of the new German standard oriented training programme for metal cutting that the college is implementing under the support of TVET-GIZ Programme. During the training course, BCI teachers were instructed and practiced with the contents such as 3D design software, application of 3D scanner, linking 3D scanner to the computer, setting up and operating 3D scanner, installing and using Geomagic Design X software for reverse engineering, scanning of physical objects and processing of scanned data.

Mr Phan Dang Thuc, teacher of Department of Mechanical Engineering, said, ‘I had the chance of practicing with Hexagon laser scanner, especially learning how to use Geomagic Design Software and connect it with the Hexagon laser scanner for collecting the point surface data. The knowledge learnt during the course is totally new and really practical and useful.”’

This training course was held within the component ‘Support of High Quality TVET Institutes’ as part of the Vietnamese – German ‘Programme Reform of TVET in Viet Nam’. The programme is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) together with the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA).
