“Real success lies in actual adoption”

From 06 to 10 of January 2020, a training workshop on “Basic Electrical Skills-Soft Soldering” was implemented by Mr Claus Bader- Development Advisors of Programme “Reform of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Viet Nam”- GIZ at Hai Phong Northern Vocational College of Economics and Technology. The aim of the course was to train teaching staff members of the college in soft soldering techniques and the aspect of “5S” and its application on existing venues at the college. More importantly, 4 step training and project method were also addressed to enhance participants’ capacity in workshop training environment. Participating in the training were 12 teachers from different departments of Northern Vocational College of Economics and Technology.

Prior to the training, a new electrical workshop was designed and set-up by the Development Advisor according to 5S standard with equipment sponsored by Programme “Reform of TVET in Viet Nam”- GIZ,  to provide a suitable practical training venue.

Starting with a one-day workshop presentation on 5S, Mr Bader introduced the 4-step and project-based training method to all participants. On the following days, the expert applied 4-step- training method to instruct participants on the soft soldering techniques. Another focus was the structure of the content in form of worksheets with instructions, drawings and the assessment tool for the practical exercises. The theory content was assessed in a separate Knowledge-Test.

During this one-week-training, participants were explained and discussed in details basic soldering techniques via the expert’s presentation and multi-media tools. They also had chance to practice basic soft soldering skills from basic to advanced levels: cross-soldering, wire soldering, and IC board soldering.

At the closing ceremony, Dr Nguyễn Viết Cường, the Rector of NVCET stated: “Thanks to the support from the Development Advisor and GIZ, tangible results were gained which laid the foundation for further steps in the future.”  Ms Trần Thị Thu Hồng, the Head of Electrics-Electronics Department, shared: “We really appreciate the Development Advisor’s effort in setting-up the training workshop and delivering the training. He has sufficiently explained and demonstrated all the exercises in a very structured and well-organized manner. We have experienced and learnt a lot from his expertise as well as his working-teaching attitude.”

Hai Phong Northern Vocational College of Economics and Technology is supported by the Vietnamese-German “Programme Reform of TVET in Viet Nam” to develop into a high quality TVET institute. The programme is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) together with the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA)
