On 28 February 2022, the event “Brown Bag Lunch – Introduction to the Cooperative Training Programme and Work safety in workshops” was successfully held with the enthusiastic participation of students of 5 German-standard pilot classes from 3 occupations: Mechanics for Sanitary, Heating and Climate technology; Electronics for Energy and Building technology; and Industrial Electronics at the College of Machinery and Irrigation (VCMI).

Mr Pham Duy Dong, Head of Training Department of VCMI, welcomed all delegates, teachers and students of 5 pilot German standard cooperative classes. After that, Mr Duong Canh Toan – Dean, Faculty of Electric – Electronic Engineering,presented to students an overview on the individual steps of the cooperative training for the three German standard-oriented occupations at VCMI. With the support from the Programme “Reform of TVET in Vietnam”, the occupational standards, training programmes, training phases in the company and at the college in-line with the training programmes have been developed and will be implemented by competent VCMI teachers and appointed in-company trainers.

During the event, the students were also provided the instructions on using the personal protection equipment (PPE). Mr Pham Van Son – Dean, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, instructed the students and answered their questions on how to use labour protection facilities such as clothes, gloves, shoes, glasses, and helmets.

Ms Pham Thi Yen Nhi and Ms Nguyen Tran My Linh – students of Electronics for Energy and Building technology – shared their thoughts at the end: “This activity provided us with a lot of valuable information about the German standard oriented Cooperative Training Programme and knowledge about PPE. We really liked and paid close attention to the instruction on how to use protective equipment because Mr. Son’s presentation is very specific, easy to understand and eye-catching. From there, we will be able to apply the shared knowledge into the classroom and future work environment to ensure the safety of ourselves and those around us.”

This activity was held within the component “Supporting High-Quality TVET Institutes” as part of the Vietnamese – German “Programme Reform of TVET in Viet Nam”. The programme is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) together with the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA).
