Opening three free short courses on basic welding for labours affected by Covid-19 in Long An

On 13 October 2020, the opening ceremony of three free short-term courses on basic welding (arc & MIG/MAG) for labours affected by the Covid-19 pandemic was held at Long An College. College’s leaders, teachers, staff, total 75 trainees of the courses ,including 7 women, and Development Advisor from the Programme “Reform of TVET in Viet Nam” attended the ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Le Minh Tam, Vice Rector of the College emphasised “The courses are very important and meaningful. Not only do they help trainees upskill to find stable jobs or become self-employment, they also contribute to improving the province’s competitiveness to attract investment as well as ensuring a sustainable development of the province”

Mr Claas-Uwe Himmel, Development Advisor of the Programme “Reform of TVET in Viet Nam” added “The courses are expected to rapidly equip trainees with fundamental occupational skills enabling them to return to labor market, which is supposed to ensure their livelihoods in the pandemic. Besides, skilled employees will be expected to significantly help companies contribute to economic recovery.”

The free short-term occupational courses are implemented by Directorate of Vocational Education and Training in collaboration with the Programme “Reform of TVET in Viet Nam” in response to the Covid-19 pandemic’s impact on the labor force. The activity’s target is the unemployed and underemployed affected by the pandemic, especially women and disadvantaged groups. The courses are opened in eight cities and provinces: Bac Ninh, Ha Tinh, Nha Trang, Ninh Thuan, Ho Chi Minh city, Dong Nai, Long An and An Giang for maximum 2 months from October to December 2020.

Long An College is supported by the Vietnamese-German Programme “Reform of TVET in Viet Nam” in developing into a high-quality TVET institute. The programme is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) together with the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA).
