Understand more about TVET learning environment and career prospects through an Open Day at LILAMA 2
On January 12, 2019, LILAMA 2 International Technology College (LILAMA 2) organised the first Open Day of the year in Dong Nai province. With an aim to provide ninth graders and their parents with a better overview of the learning environment and employment prospects that LILAMA 2 offers, the event attracted about 200 participants including students, parents, teachers and delegates of the Department of Education and Training from Phu My district, Ba Ria Vung Tau province.
At the event, LILAMA 2 introduced the cooperative training model supported by the Vietnamese-German Programme “Reform of TVET in Vietnam”. This approach fosters the involvement of the business sector in the development, implementation and examination of training offers, thereby ensuring the demand orientation of the training and improve the employability of the graduates. Visitors also visited the LILAMA 2’s facilities and experienced various teaching activities to understand more about the college’s practical learning environment.
"Phu My District has 11 secondary schools with about 2,000 students graduating from ninth grade every year, but only 80% of them move on to high schools. Therefore, supporting them on vocational training and career orientation in a timely manner is very important", said Mr Vo Tuat Hinh, Head of Training and Education Department of Phu My District.
The Open Day received positive attention from the visitors. Many questions were raised not only by the parents and teachers but also by the ninth graders concerning the training programmes, scholarship opportunities as well as the job opportunities after graduation. Nguyen Ngoc Han, a ninth grader from Truong Cong Dinh secondary school, shared: “I love mechanical engineering. I think that if I attend a vocational training course, it will be easier to find a job later and also save a big expense for my family compared to studying at university”; “I have two nephews, one is in grade nine and the other is in grade ten but he quitted school already. I am considering sending both to LILAMA 2”, said a parent.
The event was held within the field of activity “Support of Centres of Excellence(CoEs)” as part of the Vietnamese-German Programme Reform of TVET in Viet Nam. The programme is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in cooperation with the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA).
“Cooperation and participation of employers in TVET is a breakthrough solution to reform and improve the workforce quality in the context of international integration and Industry 4.0” said Dr. Truong Anh Dung, General Deputy Director of the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training (DVET) at the Dialogue on “Provisions of the Labour Code regarding industry engagement in vocational training and education (VET)”. The event was jointly organised by DVET, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Ho Chi Minh city branch and the Vietnamese-German “Programme Reform of TVET in Viet Nam” in Ho Chi Minh city on 19 April 2019.
The further training course ”Manufacturing of Metal Constructions by MAG Welding Procedures” for metal technology teachers of LILAMA 2, Long An, An Giang and VCMI vocational colleges was conducted from 15.03-12.04.2019 at LILAMA 2 International Technology College in Long Thanh/Dong Nai.
