To follow up the results of Workshop 1: TVET for Labor Marked Needs Tracer Studies and School Survey on June 5th 2009, the TVET Project organized Workshop No 2: Tracer Study - Decision and General Preparation on 12th August 2009 at Hotel Nikko Hanoi. The purpose of the one-day workshop was to discuss and agree upon the design and tools as well as general preparation needed for the pilot tracer studies. Taking part in the workshop were leaders from GDVT, representatives of Institute of Labor Science and Social Affairs, National Institute of Vocational Training, VVTA, MOET and the representatives of 11 project training institutions.
In the morning, the delegates worked on important objectives, implementation schedule, methodology and draft questionnaires for both a baseline survey to gather general information from the trainees and a tracer survey to gather data about graduates 6 and 12 months after graduation. With active participation from all delegates, specific implementation schedule for each project training institution was finalized. Valuable comments were made for improvement of the overall plan as well as the questionnaires. The project international consultant will update the questionnaires based on comments and feedback from workshop participants and try them out on a group of sample before finalization. In the afternoon, technical details such as timetable, sampling and data management system were discussed and agreed.
As stated by Mr. Henrik Schwarz in the opening address of the workshop, the major objectives of the joint Tracer Study 2009 are to develop capability and tools for implementing sustainable and cost-effective school-based tracer studies at project vocational training institutions. The institutions are key actors in such process and thus need to make great efforts in turning tracer studies into their regular activities as a measure to improve training quality and market competitiveness.
The 3rd workshop on tracer study will be organized by Promotion of TVET at Nha Trang Vocational College on 19th of August. The workshop will train implementers of tracer studies from project training institutions in sampling techniques, data collecting and inputting and data management system.
