Skilled welders, developed welding technology as well as appropriate and well maintained welding equipment are corner stones for the development of many important industries. Driven by industrial sectors, Vietnam's total gross domestic product has increased by four (= 409 %) during the last ten years. Since 1998 the construction sector (plus 458%) and the manufacturing sector (plus 500 %) have been major drivers of this growth (figures taken from Generals Statistics Office of Vietnam). Within these sectors, building construction, manufacturing, shipbuilding, motorbike- and automobile parts, railways and maintenance of equipment rely on welding processes and the availability of skilled welders.

In addition to other activities in the area of metal work, the programme component Promotion of TVET Vietnam has been focusing on welding by organizing further training of welding instructors from partner TVET institutions. Furthermore, these insitutions were provided with welding equipment through the financial component of Promotion of TVET.

Based on an assessment, training instructors are trained to achieve certificates according German and international standards. After completion of the training programme, which is conducted by the Vietnam - German Technology Transfer and Training Center (HwC - Hanoi), further trainings will follow. The instructors will be trained to be able to conduct a high level welding training and for working as multipliers for other welding instructors.
