Training Workshop II on Garment

lam028
Following the first workshop and the internal review on development and adaptation of labour market relevant training modules, a second training workshop was organised for teachers and instructors of Garment department of two partner schools, Nguyen Tat Thanh college and Hung Yen University of Technology and Education, during 24 September - 1 October 2008 at Nguyen Tat Thanh college, Ho Chi Minh city.

Through the dialogue approach, external consultants (international and local) guided participants through relevant and necessary content and jointly elaborated teaching-learning materials on subjects: Sourcing and Product Development. This in-depth exercise clearly helped participants to understand what Sourcing is about and what Product Development includes because, as it was realized, the teachers and instructors lacked of background knowledge and experience in these fields. The work (draft materials) produced at the workshop will be completed later on by the two schools with support of external consultants.
The workshop included also one day visit to Garment factories (exporters), one government owned and one foreign invested factory. The idea was very good but these factories did not offer required services for product development, sourcing, shipment, etc (discussed themes).

Within the Viet Nam German cooperation framework in the field of TVET, CIM expert, Ms. Janine Kruse also participated in the workshop as a resource person. Her experience with enterprises was gratefully recognized and she will continue to work closer with teachers and instructors of two schools. In particular, she will have back-up mini workshops with them on Pattern Making and Pattern Software which is her specialization.

On issues for improvement, English command of the participants was still a problem. Some of participants would have missed a lot of knowledge and information if translation were not provided. Selection of participants was another matter. While for effective capacity development reason, it is a must that teachers participating permanently in project supported activities, it was also for technical reason, to have additional participants with background and experiences relevant to workshop theme.

With the aim of preparing teachers and instructors with the capacity for utilizing KfW equipments, further work will be organised and prioritsed for Pattern Making and Pattern Software. This includes a workshop on Pattern Making with CIM expert and school teachers with related background and experience can attend.

Finally, the workshop participants acknowledged the important support of the management as well many staff of Nguyen Tat Thanh College, in particular the Rector, Vice Rector and staff of Academic and Garment departments.

In the next training workshop with international consultants, scheduled for December 2008, school teachers will be trained about garment making equipments and have opportunities to
  •  have seminar with buyers who present their expectations and requirements,
  •  to discuss with successful Indonesian exporters,
  •  to visit Full Package Service-companies in order to see what FOB means in practical application.
It is expected that with these activities the teachers shall be able to handle and maintain the labour market relevant training modules developed and provided and upgrade and adapt their own training programs in combination with using the KfW supported equipments for their training and teaching activity.

due to unexpected electricity cut-off in the whole area, the designated factories were not available to visit.
